Gifts that you receive this Holiday Season are wrapped in unique boxes with beautiful paper, bows, and cards. Recycling those beautiful supplies can save you money.

Every year the scene seems to repeat itself with total disorganization and a frantic rush to open Holiday gifts. You hear the tearing of the paper and the ripping of bows to get at those treasured gifts. However, if we actually had a well thought out, organized environment, we all could save money and resources for the following gift giving season. Recycling gift wrapping paper, ribbon, boxes and Holiday season cards is an excellent way to dramatically reduce your gift wrapping expense for the following year. Often we think of only the big ways to save money and forget that pennies make dollars. Recycling also helps the environment while putting money into your pocket.

Gift Wrapping Paper

When you unwrap your gift, carefully remove the tape and gently tear back the corners of the gift paper from around the corners of the gift. Once you have removed the paper, fold the paper several times, depending upon the size, to about the size of an average size gift box. Any torn paper is not worth saving and should be discarded in a separate garbage bag designated for paper trash.

Gift Boxes

Gift boxes should always be saved for the following gift-giving Holiday season. Once you have removed the wrapping paper, collapse the box top and bottom. Place the top and bottom together and place in a storage container or storage box, which will keep your gift wrapping supplies dry and dust free.

Ribbon and Bows

Ribbon and bows are the easiest wrapping supplies to save. Carefully remove the bow or ribbon from the gift and place in a zip-lock type plastic bag to keep the bows and ribbon dry and free from dust. If you have a large quantity of ribbon, try wrapping the ribbon around a cardboard sleeve you’re your wrapping paper. A short piece of the sleeve will provide an excellent storage device for your long strands of ribbon. Bows and ribbons quickly add up and will create a terrific supply for your next year gift giving Holiday Season.

Gift Tags

Gift tags cannot always be saved because they often tear when attempting to remove from the gift. A great option to saving gift tags is to save Holiday Season cards. The card face can be cut into strips and used to create gift tags. Holiday Season cards can also be saved and used for paper tree ornaments for your Christmas tree. Cards can be cut into different shapes including Christmas trees, angels, horses, bows, and reindeer.

Saving money by recycling paper gift wrapping supplies can actually be fun. The entire family can participate by saving their own paper supplies. You will be amazed at just how quickly the paper supplies add up into a useable inventory for your next year gift wrapping extravaganza.
